Obama likes war

Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL), the Democrats’ presidential nominee, says he thought about joining the military, but didn’t.
Why not?
Because we weren’t at war:
“I graduated in 1979. The Vietnam War had come to an end. We weren’t engaged in an active military conflict at that point. And so, it’s not an option that I ever decided to [...]

Secrets

I can keep a secret.
I had secret clearance when I was in the Army. A job needed it, they ran the checks, and I was given it.
There’s a higher clearance level. There are lower clearance levels. Secret was the one I had.
What brought this up?
Did you hear about what Jimmy Carter said? According to the [...]

Remember

During the time I wore my country’s uniform, I was mostly in a situation where I was at home. That is, I got up in the morning and went to work.
Only, instead of driving to a factory or an office, I went to an Army post.
We’d occasionally deploy on a training exercise, but those really [...]

Nuthin’ But A Number

There are a few things I missed in life that many others have experienced … and think nothing of.
Selective Service, for instance.
Back when I was approaching 18, the U.S. still had a draft. Actually, they stopped drafting around 1973, but kept registration for the draft as a requirement.
In 1975, President Ford signed Proclamation 4360, which [...]

Airborne

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend The Lieutenant’s graduation from Airborne school. Earlier this week, the Little Princess and I watched him on one of his jumps.
Yesterday, he and 300 or so of his fellow soldiers (along with some sailors, airmen, and Marines) were awarded their wings.
The ceremony was preceded by a brief show. [...]

No, I’ve never jumped out of an airplane. And I never plan to. And if I do jump out of an airplane, it’ll be because I have to. Because I don’t want to.
But there are others that don’t mind jumping out of perfectly good airplanes.
Army Rangers, for instance.
The Little Princess is dating a soldier. A [...]

Pinups For Vets - Last Call

Last month, we mentioned about Gina Elise’s project called Pinups For Vets. Gina is doing 1940s style pinups for veterans.
Over the past year, I have heard and read incredible stories about the injured soldiers returning from military service. Their hardest battles have just begun, as they attempt to recover in Veterans Hospitals all across America [...]

Cheesecake For Vets

It seems I missed the boat on a little project by Gina Elise.
Who’s Gina Elise, you ask?
Well, she’s an actress, model, and hostess. Not sure if “struggling” would be a good description, but she’s not had a breakout just yet.
But, she has a project going that might be of interest. And that’s the project I [...]

An American Soldier

Last week, the Wife and I were honored to be invited to a graduation. My daughter, the Little Princess, was dating a cadet at the United States Military Academy. Lots simply call it West Point.
He’s no longer at West Point. He graduated. And, no, that’s not the graduation we went to.
Her Soldier Boy went to [...]
