TrackBacks Policy

Feb 11th, 2007 by Basil

Our TrackBacks policy is pretty simple. We accept TrackBacks. We also display TrackBack links underneath each post to which it is linked.

Now, keep in mind, with one the exception of posts labeled “Open Trackbacks,” TrackBacks are not free links. They are exchanges.

A little about TrackBacks

TrackBacks were invented by SixApart as a way of automating things.

If you link to a post here, you’ll get a link back by using our TrackBacks feature. That’s how TrackBacks work: it’s a link back to your post for your linking to a post here. That’s how TrackBacks are designed to work, and how they work here. With one small exception, “Open TrackBacks.”
Exchange Links

If you want to request a link to a post of yours, use the TrackBacks feature. If you want a “free” link without exchange for a link here, do that on an post labeled “Open TrackBacks.”

Our Links Policy says we don’t exchange links. That’s still true. But if you ask for a link, we’ll agree to an exchange … via TrackBacks. Link to us and send a TrackBack.

If you don’t know how to send a TrackBack, read up on it. For example, our post tells all about it … and gives instructions on how to send them. Additionally, Harvey of Bad Example has an excellent primer here

Finally, if your blog can’t generate TrackBacks, use either the Adam Kalsey Simpletracks form or the Wizbang Standalone Trackback Pinger.

About Open TrackBacks

Effective January 19, 2007, we will not require a link to any post labeled “Open TrackBacks” in order for a TrackBack to appear. But we do request a link to our blog somewhere on your blog.

For example, if you want to submit one of your posts to one of our “Open TrackBacks” posts, go ahead. It’s not necessary to include a blurb about our post in yours. While we are always grateful for links, but we’re no longer requiring links to have your post appear via TrackBack on an “Open TrackBack” post.

However, if you submit a TrackBack to a post that is not labeled “Open TrackBacks,” we will require a link in order for it to appear in the list.

Keep in mind that the spam-fighting software we use may moderate or otherwise queue your post for approval if you don’t include a link. Sometimes, it moderates TrackBacks even if you include a link.

Previously, we checked your submission, and if no link was evident, we deleted your TrackBack.

Begining January 19, 2007, we will approve such links to “Open TrackBack” posts, whether or not you link to us.
