About Basil
Feb 11th, 2007 by Basil
Basil (yes, that’s his real name) started Basil’s Blog in December, 2004.
Perhaps I shouldn’t refer to myself in the third person. I’m not Bob Dole, after all.
Anyway, I started this little blog just to see if I could.
I am from the South. Most people, when they first meet me and hear me talk, deduct about 60 IQ points. After being around me for a while, they give me 40-50 of them back. Those last 10-20 take a while.
That picture? It’s me. It was taken a long time ago. But it’s me.
The name “Basil?” Yep. It’s mine. Now, it’s not the name I go by everyday. Just here on this little blog. But that name is on my birth certificate. And driver’s license. And probably on a couple of subpoenas.
In case you haven’t figured it out from what I’ve written on the blog, I lean to the right politically. So far to the right, I’m practically horizontal. But I’m not a Republican. I’m not a member of any political party. But I’m a Christian and a conservative.
I like baseball. I like college football. I enjoy candlelit dinners and long walks on the beach.
Oh, and I’m a little bit of a computer geek.
And there’s more to tell. But you gotta read the blog!
Pronounciation
“Basil” is a proper name, not an herb. The name is pronounced BAZ-il. That’s a short “a” sound. Like cat, fat, mat, bat, and so on.
The herb is pronounced BAY-zil. That’s a long “a” sound. Like cake, fate, mate, bait, and so on.
I’m the name. Not the herb.
Spelling
Some wonder if it’s “Basil” or “basil” that I go by. Actually, it’s “Basil” … but “basil” is perfectly acceptable.
The whole lower-case thing happened as a joke. And it sort of took over. So, while the blog was originally “Basil’s Blog”, text formatting of the original theme made it appear lower-case, and it sort of stuck. Call me “Basil” or call me “basil” … either is fine. Just pronounce it correctly.
